That's what little kids still do and we have forgotten it along ,somewhere as we grew up ...We just forgot about the astonishment of nature ! And as we get busier in our daily routine .. The wonderment still diminishes ...till a point where the passing greenery while we travel to work is not a mood uplifting sight at all !!
Often I sit in our little garden with both boys and as we sit there on the grass .. I ask them to just observe nature ...( this was the favourite activity all during summers when I used to be asked " mom I'm bored !! What do I do ?" ) ...so now-a-days chhotu knows the exact location of the new ant colony ... Cheenu is amazed by the intricacies of the web, this spider is busy spinning .The flip side although ,is that I have to often rush when in his over eagerness chhotu starts rubbing off the ant trail in order to confuse the ants ( "mumma I'm just checking to see if they can trace the colony map back " , I screech back "No....let them be !!!!") and Cheenu starts drooling from his mouth and I rush with a tissue ( " I'm trying to see if my saliva can spin a web too !" )
But let that amazement be inculcated early on in kids .. It helps them observe .. It helps them astonish .. And best of all it's the best anti-dote to boredom . One can never get bored of Nature now , can we ? I'm also hoping it's the best way to unwind when children grow up into busy adults with busier lives !!
Just enjoy the beauty of the gulmohar tree in full bloom today when you stop at that traffic signal ... Or love the veins on the leaves of that potted plant in the lonely corner of the office ... Wherever you are .. Just appreciate the nature you happen to glance at today .. It's sure to leave a smile on your face 😊
